MSC Scotland BBQ Weekend

MSC Scotland invite all BearScots members to be guests at their BBQ Weekend event.
This will be held in Edinburgh/Dunbar from June 8th until June 10th.
If you are not familiar with MSC Scotland, you can find out more about them on their website www.msc-scotland.net.
Plans for the MSC Scotland weekend are below:
Friday 8th June
The weekend kicks off with registration at Barony Street from 6.30 – 7.00pm, where a drink and nibbles will be available to set everyone up for a trip to the Steamworks Sauna, you will be issued with a voucher for entry between 7pm and 11pm. For those wishing to continue, MSC Scotland welcome you to the Claremont Bar until 1am. For those who are unable to make the Friday evening, The Steamworks Sauna will honour the voucher from the 8th to the 10th .
Saturday 9th
The FUKC AGM will be held at the Out House from 12.30pm (MSC Members Only), where tea coffee and a buffet lunch will be available for delegates.
For all non participating members and guests there will be a private tour of the Scottish Parliament Buildings or a voucher for the guide Friday Tour bus valid for use at any time over the weekend.
The MSC Scotland BBQ at John Muir Country Park, Dunbar.
The bus will collect us from The Claremont Bar, to leave at 5.00pm, there will be plenty to eat but, BYOB. The coach will pick us up from John Muir Country Park at around 10pm and return us to the Claremont for more beer and fun.
Sunday 10th
Brunch, consisting a full breakfast with coffee or tea will be served to all members and guests from 12.30pm in The Claremont Bar.
And for those who still have any energy, and those not rushing home, our usual informal afternoon / evening in the Regent Bar.
Accommodation
A limited amount of accommodation is available with MSC Club Members, but obviously for this event, the delegates attending the Conference will receive priority.

Booking Info
The last date MSC Scotland will be able to take bookings will be Saturday 2nd June at the BearScots Club night in the Claremont Bar. Booking forms are be available in the bar or you can obtain more details by emailing stuart_barber@btconnect.com.
Rates for the weekend are £25.00 for those who want to attend the barbeque only, and £40.00 for the complete weekend. All bookings will be confirmed in writing by MSC with full details and maps as soon as they receive a booking form with your payment.
Walk The West Highland Way
On Thursday 19th April, Mr Bear Scotland (Lee) and a few other BearScots members will be setting off on a six day hike of the Scottish West Highland Way. This 96 mike hike takes them through some of Scotland's most beautiful mountain scenery and will be both challenging and relaxing at the same time.The lads have opened up their privately organised hike to both members and non members of BearScots. If you would like to join them for all or part of the hike, then see the itenerary below and contact Lee for help making your arrangements. Note: This is not an event organised by the BearScots committee. You must have your own equipment and suitable clothing for the Scottish Highland weather. Hiking in the highlands is at your own risk and you will need to organise your own transport to Milngavie, and from Fort William.
Thursday 19th – Milngavie to Drymen
- Distance: 19.5 km (12 miles)
- Estimated Time: 4-5 hrs.
- Height Range: 300ft (90m) ascent
- Terrain: Footpaths, tracks, lanes and an old railway, no major climbs.
- Accommodation: Easter Drumquhassle Farm. Tent Required.
- Lunch: None required, take some snacks for eating en route.
- Evening Meal: Bar Food in Drymen.
- Cost: Camping is £4 per person. Breakfast is £4.
Friday 20th – Drymen to Rowardennan
- Distance: 24km (15 miles)
- Estimated Time: 5-6 hrs.
- Height Range: 1200ft (360m) ascent
- Terrain: Good paths or tracks most of the way. The first major climb is over Conic Hill near Balmaha. The lochside route to Rowardennan is twisty and undulating.
- Accommodation: Rowardennan Youth Hostel
- Lunch: Hot meal in Balmaha after descending Conic Hill.
- Evening Meal: Bar Food in Rowardennan.
- Cost: Accommodation is £14 per person. Breakfast approx £5.
Saturday 21st – Rowardennan to Inverarnan
- Distance: 22.5 km (14 miles)
- Estimated Time: 5-6 hrs.
- Height Range: 800ft (240m) ascent
- Terrain: This is by far the roughest section of the Way, particularly north of Inversnaid where the path makes a tortuous route along the side of Loch Lomond with many ups and downs. A full, hard days walk but the scenery is superb.
- Accomodation: Beinglas Farm
- Lunch: Sandwich/Soup at Inversnaid Hotel.
- Evening Meal: Bar Food at The Drovers Inn
- Places of Interest: Rob Roy's Prison and Rob Roy's Cave, Stuffed Two Headed Lamb at the Drovers.
- Cost: Accommodation is about £15 per person. Breakfast approx £5.
Sunday 22nd Inverarnan to Bridge of Orchy
- Distance: 10.5km (19.5miles)
- Estimated Time: 6-7 hrs.
- Height Range: 1000ft (300m) ascent
- Terrain: Good paths and tracks with some moderate ascent and descent, but nothing unduly difficult and nowhere far from services. A straightforward day of glen and low pass walking amid outstanding mountain scenery.
- Accommodation: The Bunk House @ Bridge of Orchy Hotel
- Lunch: This is another snack type day. You can purchase some rolls n stuff at the campsite in the morning.
- Evening Meal: Food at The Bridge of Orchy Hotel
- Cost: Accommodation is about £15 per person. Breakfast approx £5.
Monday 23rd Bridge of Orchy to Kinlochleven
- Distance: 21km (19 miles)
- Estimated Time: 6-7 hrs.
- Height Range: 1800ft max (540m) ascent
- Terrain: The surfaces are mainly good underfoot but you are highly exposed; in bad weather Rannoch Moor has to be taken seriously. The scenery is spectacular. The climb is moderate before Inveroran, then there’s a higher level path before descending into the eastern end of Glen Coe. From Kingshouse, the surfaces are mainly good but you are very highly exposed at its highest point, 500m, before a long descent down to Kinlochleven, although short it’s still a hard stage in bad weather.
- Black Water Hostel / Camp Site.
- Lunch: Food at the climbers bar in the Kingshouse Hotel..
- Evening Meal: Food at The Tailrace Inn.
- Places of Interest: The Devils Staircase. At 1850ft this is the highest point along the Way.
- Cost: Accommodation is about £15 per person. Breakfast approx £5.
Tuesday 24th – Kinlochleven to Fort William
- Distance: 22.5km (14miles)
- Estimated Time: 5-6 hrs.
- Height Range: 1800ft max Down to 300ft ascent
- Terrain: Very good paths at this last stage, there is a steep climb out of Kinlochleven, then there are no more serious gradients, the path through Nevis Forest is a bit rough then on to some tarmac descending down into Fort William.
- Accommodation: None planned for the group, we head home to Edinburgh in the evening.
- Lunch: No place to stop for lunch so we buy stuff at the co-op in Kinlochleven.
- Evening Meal: Probably pub grub or McDonalds in Fort William.
- Places of Interest: The way goes through LAIRIGMOR, this section of the walk boasts 11 Munros.
Mr Bear Scotland 2007
On Friday 6th April the finals to our Mister Bearscots Bear Scotland contest were held at BearScots birthday party.Lee from Edinburgh was elected Mister Bear Scotland 2007. All our congratulations to him. He's the winner of a hand-sewn tailor made kilt from our partner Celtic Craft Centre; for which he will get measured up next week.
First runner up was Malcolm and second runner-up was Jim, both from Glasgow.
All our congratulations to the hunky finalists! We'll update the BearScots gallery with photos of the event pretty soon.
Bearscots would also like to say a big thank you to our other contestants who unfortunately didn't make it to the finals. So thank you Steven, Ben, Najib and Mike, for participating to the contest.

Bears In The Hills - March 16th to 19th 2007
Due to popular demand, Bears In The Hills returns again! This year, we are heading north to Isla Bank in Keith, Moray. The weekend offers the chance to unwind in the beautiful surroundings and to meet new people and make new friends.Because spaces are very limited at Isla Bank we predict that spots for Bears in the Hills will go very quickly. We are initially opening the event to BearScots members only, but then are opening the event to anyone who is interested. So act quickly!

If there are spaces still available you will be required to pay a deposit of £40. You can pay by cheque or through PayPal by credit card. The balance of £35 is payable on your arrival at Isla Bank.
